Planning a Bathroom Remodel in Atlanta: What to Decide Before Demo Day

October 20, 2026 De Leon Jose Remodeling

Bathrooms are small, but almost every trade shows up in them: demolition, plumbing, electrical, drywall, tile, fixtures and paint. That's why a little planning before the work starts saves the most money and the most headaches.

Start with the goal. Is this a refresh — new vanity, fixtures and paint — or a full remodel where the layout changes? Moving a toilet, tub or shower drain means opening floors and re-running pipes, which changes both the budget and the schedule. If the layout works for you, keeping it is usually the biggest saving.

Decide on the big pieces first: the tub or shower, the vanity and the tile. These have lead times, and they set the dimensions everything else has to fit. Order them early and have them on site before demolition so the work doesn't stall.

Expect surprises behind the walls. Older homes often hide soft subfloors, outdated or leaking plumbing and wiring that needs updating. Opening the walls is the moment to fix them properly; covering them back up is how small problems turn into expensive ones. It's worth keeping a little room in the budget for this.

Think about the tile. Large-format tile means fewer grout lines and a cleaner look, but it needs a flatter surface. Mosaics and hex patterns are great for shower floors and accent walls. Whatever you choose, the layout and level checks matter more than the price per square foot.

Finally, plan how you'll live during the job. Tell us which bathroom you can use, and we'll mask off the work area, protect the floors on the way in and out and clean up daily.
